What is Blogtober?
Blogtober is a month of blogging love for your neglected blog. Yes, it’s a good excuse to dust off the keyboard and write one blog post per day for the entire month of October. Yes, even on weekends.
Ok, so there’s also Blogvember, Blogcember etc. But why put off tomorrow what you can do today or this month.
Join the blogging community this month for #Blogtober.
What if I don’t have a blog?
Then start one with a bang, and after you’ve blogged every day in October you’ll actually have quite a reasonable list of blog posts behind you. You can also use this month to form a strong blogging habit. Who knows you might actually like it. Check out a few of my popular posts on how to get started with your blog.
or if you need a little more hand-holding then sign-up for my 7 Day Blog Jumpstart Course – It’s free!
How to succeed in Blogtober?
Preparation is the key to succeeding in Blogtober. And no I’m not talking about stocking up on wine and coffee to keep you going through-out the month. I’m talking about the sort of preparation that’ll keep you organised and motivated.
Your Blogtober Cheat Sheet
#1 – Start a blog Editorial Plan
Ok, this is a fancy name for a list of blog posts you want to write. It’ll make the month easier if you already know what you are going to write. Time to brainstorm a little.
#2 – Do a little research
There is no point banging on about stuff you like when your readers aren’t interested. Go Pro and search for the keywords and phrases other people are using to improve your organic traffic.
#3 – Start writing now
No, you aren’t cheating if you create a few blog posts ahead of time. It’s about having a few blog posts up your sleeve to cover those night-outs when you don’t recover so well in the morning or weekends when life converges into a big ball of busy.
#4 – Build your image library
If you are like me finding those perfect images to complement your writing can take extra time. Start building a library of free images to use for your blog posts to save time during Blogtober.
#5 – Tell your readers
A common mistake is not to advertise you are doing this, it’s likely your readers only visit your blog periodically. Let them know you’ll be posting something each day so they turn up for the cake.
#6 – Post Something each day
#7 – Mix it up
Be sure to mix up your blog content, with images, video, how to’s and lists to keep it more interesting for your readers during this month.
#8 – Call out for help
If you are getting stuck then put your hand up and let someone get you back on track. The blogging community are always willing to help a friend in need.
#9 Enjoy Yourself
If you’re not having fun then it’s going to get a little boring. Have some fun during Blogtober and let your creative side loose. You just never know, you might just find that sweet spot with your readers and get more share love than you’d expect. That reminds me, please share this 😛
During the month of October, I’ll be retweeting my little heart out for any bloggers using the #blogtober hashtag in twitter. Or follow me on Twitter @DIYBlogGuy and make sure you use @DIYBlogGuy in your posts. I’ll do my best, but I do have to sleep 😉
Tip: Getting your URL tweeted or retweeted does actually help your search engine rankings. It’s called a social signal.
If you know someone who needs to start blogging again, then please send them this link. Otherwise, let me know if you are going to give your blog a real shove this month and participate in Blogtober. Good Luck, Blog Well!
