Should you Blog over Christmas?
It’s only a few more sleeps until Santa arrives and gives all the good boys and girls Special Christmas pressies, but this got me thinking about blogging over Christmas.
Is it worth your while?
Well as this is my first blogging Christmas I’m committed to the blogging cause because I don’t know any better yet. And from personal experience despite being a busy time leading up to Christmas, those days after Christmas are a time to reflect and take a little break from your daily life.
It’s also a great time to get active on social media so make sure you have something to share with your readers.
4 Reasons Why You Should Blog Over Christmas
#1 – People Have more Free Time
It’s the holiday period and people have more free time over the Christmas break than any other time in the year. If they’ve been meaning to read your blog then this might be the ideal time to gain another full-time reader.
However, if you blog looks abandoned because you took a 2-week break, they might not bother sticking around.
#2- You’ll Have More to Say
If you’re someone who suffers from writers block then blogging over Christmas is a great opportunity for new content, as you’re likely to be talking to more people and getting into more thought provoking conversations.
Sure you’ll have plenty to blog about during the Christmas Holidays but be sure to write a few notes as ideas come to mind or they might be lost in the Christmas festive haze.
#3 – Google Never Sleeps
Taking a two-week break from updating your blog might send the wrong signal to Google. Now it certainly won’t hurt your rankings but it’s not helping them either. Even if you can’t post something because you’re on holidays then, at least, schedule something to publish automatically.
But remember to let your readers know you’re on holidays so they aren’t offended if you don’t reply to their comments.
#4 – You Don’t Want to Break your Writing Habit
If you’ve been working on your writing habit all year then you certainly don’t want to take a few weeks off as you’ll struggle to get back in the swing of things. Trust Me, I’ve been there and it’s surprisingly more difficult to get back into the flow than you might think.
So for me I’ll be blogging/vlogging over Christmas and even will have something scheduled on Christmas Day for my Youtube Channel because I’m currently on a 365-day project, and don’t want to break my streak after 50 straight videos thus far.
Plus I have a few neglected blogs out there that need to be updated to keep reminding Google that they are still active and deserve their fair share of organic traffic.
This wasn’t meant to be a long blog post, but even the short 500-word posts are better than nothing at all.
Now I’m off to finish my Christmas Shopping, so make sure you keep safe over the Christmas period and keep on blogging.
