The 9 Best Websites to Find Free Blog Backgrounds
I often get asked “Where do you find free blog backgrounds?”, so I thought I’d put together a list of the popular websites on the Internet providing this service. Just be aware these backgrounds are typically for Blogger sites as WordPress uses templates or themes to achieve a similar result, you can find the equivalent WordPress backgrounds here.
HotBliggityBlog – What an awesome site this is and the creator, clearly loves to create backgrounds. What you’ll find are hundreds of free blog background designs for you to choose from, in either standard, widened and full-width image sizes. It’s clearly a passion or should I say obsession and they even offer to customise backgrounds designed specifically for you at reasonable prices.
TheCutestBlogontheBlock – These free blog background designs are pretty funky, and again there is pages and pages of them. There are other templates and designs for other blogging platforms, but to be honest I didn’t hang around this blog site for long as I felt like I was being bombarded with ads. I guess it’s my fault for not using an ad blocker, or is it?
ShabbyBlogs – The owner is totally, pulling your leg with that domain name, because it’s a ‘Not So Shabby Blog’, so maybe it refers to being shabby-sheek or even shabby-chic. In fact it’s a totally cute blog and the free blog background designs have an art deco feel about them, but hey I’m no art critic, so call me out on twitter if I’m wrong @diyblogguy .lol. Now if you have a flash player installed, you are going to love the cute little gnome in the header. I won’t spoil it for you, go and see for yourself.
There are plenty of other free blog design stuff on the site, so you won’t be disappointed. The longer I spend on the blog, the more I’m sure the gnome is watching me and perhaps even created this blog. Santa has his elves’s so why can’t bloggers have their gnomes.
Blogaholicdesigns – There are lot of classic designs, which actually remind me of my grandma’s wallpaper, that is real wallpaper I’m talking about and not digital wallpaper. And no she didn’t live in the 70’s so we are totally saved from the bright green and oranges of that era. Blogaholics Designs also have a custom design service but it’s not as cheap as some of the previous custom background design offerings. However, I think I’m getting blog background blindness as I’m starting to feel like these backgrounds are beginning to look the same.
Dottydotdotdesign – However, you’ll be surprised at the quality and more modern look of these free blog backgrounds. I particular like the sketches on drawing paper, and how cute is that dinosaur, robot and mouse design. I want it! Although, it’ll be pointless on my WordPress Blog, Doh! I love this designer has included an example post in the background images so you can see what a blog post would actually look like before installing the background. Smart thinking. And this is this first blog that is grouping by categories, like themes, patterns and Awesomness! Sweet!
BloggerCandy – Now don’t hate me, but these are more like blogger templates, than just free blog backgrounds. But destiny got me to this site, so I thought perhaps I should take a look anyway. The backgrounds are fairly standard, but the actual templates are quite impressive. You are getting a background and header all zipped in a neat package. The instructions are also adequately detailed. I do like the use of tags to group the templates. Up there for creative thinking.
Itkupilli – And now for something completely different, and I mean different. The detail in these designs must have taken a great deal of time. If you like cherubs and fairies then this is the blog for you. Although I found this blog via the original website, that was abandoned in 2012, the exquisite quality still lives on, in this new blog. Again these designs are templates, and it just reflects the changes in Bloggers functionality over the years. However, if you still like the traditional background look with a basic web page then I think you’ll be fine just installing the background images.
The artist, and yes these designs are more like art, appears to out do herself with each template. You just need to visit this blog to see what I mean, and even if you are overwhelmed by the designs, you can still appreciate the art.
IzzieGrace – Instantly I got the feeling these free blog backgrounds reminded me of scrap-booking, and the disclaimer at the bottom of the page qualified that suspicion. There is a warning that these blog backgrounds should only be used on personal sites, so be warned that someone owns these designs. However, they are quite modern scrap-booking designs and would suit a craft blog or one that talks about specially about scrap-booking. They are still great designs and worth checking out, even if it’s just for ideas.
Somethingswanky – So I guess you are also wondering, how to create your own blog background designs. Well I was, so I found this site with a comprehensive guide to creating your own custom blog backgrounds. I never realised it was so easy, or maybe it’s because Ashton, the blogger, makes it look easy. This is one of those sites that you find quickly, but stay for awhile. Oh, and what ever you do, don’t look at the brownie recipes on this blog, because they look way too yummy and it’ll make you hungry. You have been warned!
And that’s a wrap!
Sometimes I wonder if people get an information overload when trying to perfect their blog design. Personally I like to keep it short and sweet and spend more time in the writing of content. These Free Background Blogs could help us confused folk a little more, by allowing the designs to be sorted by popularity so we can just choose from the top 10 or 20 that obviously appeal to most readers. A few provided extra search capabilities like DottyDotDot, and the rest should see how well it was done.
I hope you enjoyed this post, as I was kept interested until the end when writing it. Please share and like this post, if you got any value from it.
