While You’ve Been Away – I’ve Been Moving a Blog
Just a quick update on what’s been happening on Startablog.info over the last few days. I’ve been Moving a Blog.
My iPage hosting was about to run out (YES, I’ve really been using iPage hosting over the last year) and I thought it was about time I consolidated a few of my blogs and find this is much easier to manage with a Bluehost CPanel interface rather than the one iPage provides.
Now don’t get me wrong iPage is totally fine for the low-cost Blogger who wants all the benefits of a REAL domain and hosting account but without a large financial commitment.
And I understand you might like to dip your toe into the blogosphere rather than just jumping in so an iPage hosting account is perfect for that. And given you can get their low cost discounted rate for just 12 months why wouldn’t you use them.
That’s less than a coffee per month or $24USD per year if you don’t drink coffee. Bargain!!
Anyway I do digress, and as mentioned in the past, I have a few blogs on Virtual Private Servers, and several shared hosting accounts, so it’s time to consolidate a few.
The VPS servers have been great and I use Digital Ocean, but there’s extra work involved in running a VPS and I need my blogs to have low overheads during this year as I focus more on my YouTube Channels and renovating and moving houses.
So a Bluehost PRO account is perfect for my current needs. Plus with Bluehost, I can save money by not needing to purchase a private email account with Google Work. Setting up a mail account is really easy with Bluehost, so for low volume email accounts, it’ll save you money for sure.
I chose another Bluehost PRO account (this isn’t my fist one) because it allows me to host a few websites without impacting each other and comes with the Backup Software, Dedicated IP address, and an SSL certificate if I need it.
And you can get a High-Performance Hosting account for as little as $13.95 per month which is quite reasonable considering your life will be more hassle free.
So I’ll try Bluehost out for the next 30 days to make sure it’s meeting my needs and if not I can always use the 30-day money back guarantee and get a full refund. Sweet!
Anyway, moving the blog was actually quite painless, apart from installing the wrong database backup and having one of those WTF moments where I try to work out what went wrong.
However, the fix was easy and it only took me less than an hour to resolve, so it’s unlikely you experienced any downtime on the blog, but if you did please let me know in the comments. Thanks.
Also, if you want me to create a blog post on how to transfer your WordPress Blog from iPage to Bluehost, then let me know and I’ll make it a priority.
It’s really quite straightforward, but it always helps to watch someone guiding you along the way.
So this was just a quick update on what’s been going on with this blog, and realistically why there haven’t been any updates.
Transferring my blog was on my TODO list and I didn’t want to post content as I was thinking I’d be doing the transfer in the coming days. Obviously, that stretched out to the coming weeks.
Anyway, tomorrow I’m off on a short holiday, so no more posts from me for this week. But I should be able to get back into a regular groove once I get a few offline tasks completed.
That’s the great thing about blogging, rather than a Bricks and Mortar business. You can always put it on hold while you enjoy your life a little.
After all, that’s why we blog right?
To give us the freedom to live a life how we want rather than how we’re told it’s supposed to be.
